Chapter 6 - The Midnight Interrogation

Julian reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small black encrypted flash drive, tossing it onto the metal table beside the ledgers.
"Three days ago," Julian explained, his tone dangerously calm, "federal banking authorities in Panama, Switzerland, and the Cayman Islands executed international freezing orders on every single offshore entity registered under your name, your shell companies, and your aliases."
Victor’s hysterical laughter instantly died. His jaw slackened, his eyes bulging in utter disbelief.
"How... how could you know about those accounts?" Victor stammered.
"Because I bought the banking network that managed them ten years ago," Julian revealed softly. "I didn't just survive the Atlantic, Victor. I rebuilt myself. Under the name of the Apex Global Consortium, I spent decades quietly acquiring the debt of every bank, every politician, and every shell company you ever touched. You didn't build an empire, Victor. You built a house of cards inside a cage I constructed around you."
The realization hit Victor like a physical blow. He staggered backward, his legs giving out as the federal agents caught him by his arms to keep him upright.
Every dollar he thought he had secured, every bribe he had paid, every piece of stolen real estate had been monitored, traced, and quietly seized long before he even walked into the ballroom tonight.
Prosecutor Vance turned to the federal agents. "Take Victor Sterling into custody. Charge him with first-degree attempted murder, grand larceny, international money laundering, and human trafficking. Secure all individuals named in these ledgers for immediate questioning."
As the agents dragged Victor up the spiral stairs, he began to scream frantically, begging for help from the guests standing at the top of the landing. But as he was hauled past his former friends, business partners, and relatives, they turned their backs on him in disgust, stepping away to avoid being associated with his fall.
Down in the subterranean vault, silence fell once again.
Julian turned to Clara and David. The heavy air of vengeance that had filled the chamber cleared, replaced by a deep, emotional stillness.
Julian stepped up to Clara, taking both of her hands into his. He looked down at the frayed, threadbare coat she was wearing—the coat of a woman who had spent forty years living in poverty and shadow to protect the truth.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to find my way back to you, Clara," Julian whispered, his voice cracking with profound emotion as tears welled in his eyes. "I lost my memory... but my heart never forgot your face."
May you like
Clara smiled through her tears, reaching up to gently touch the deep scar along Julian’s cheek.
"You came back," Clara said softly. "That’s all that matters. You came back to me, and you brought our son home."
