Chapter 8 - The Rebuilding of Vance Logistics

With the criminal threat permanently erased, the work of restoration began in earnest.

Over the next three months, Holden and Richard worked side-by-side to purge Vance Logistics of Victor Sterling's remaining corrupt associates. Holden’s private equity firm injected a thirty-million-dollar low-interest credit line into Vance Logistics, stabilizing the company's stock and allowing Richard to resume his role as CEO with absolute control.

At the same time, Richard bought a beautiful five-acre estate in Bellevue—just two miles down the road from Cross Manor—ensuring the two families remained constantly connected.

Every weekend, Holden's quiet manor was filled with the happy screams and laughter of Maisie and Jonah.

In November, on a crisp Saturday afternoon, Holden hosted the grand opening of the "Maisie & Jonah Vance Foundation for Children in Crisis."

The foundation, established with a fifty-million-dollar joint endowment from Holden Cross and Richard Vance, was designed to provide emergency legal advocacy, medical care, and secure housing for abandoned or endangered children throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The charity gala took place in the grand ballroom of Cross Manor. Over three hundred community leaders, child advocates, and business executives gathered to support the cause.

Holden walked up to the podium, looking out at the glittering crowd. Beside him on stage stood Richard, Maisie, and Jonah.

The twins looked radiant. Jonah wore a adorable little navy suit with a red bow tie, still holding his favorite brown stuffed dog—which now had a tiny gold badge pinned to its collar that read "Honorary Security Officer." Maisie wore a bright yellow dress, her blond curls bouncing as she held her father's hand.

Holden adjusted the microphone. "One year ago, I was walking through an airport terminal on my way to a routine business meeting," Holden spoke into the room, his deep voice carrying warmth and quiet power. "I thought my life was defined by corporate acquisitions, financial statements, and board meetings."

He looked down at Maisie and Jonah, his eyes shining with profound affection.

"Then I met two little heroes at Gate B12," Holden continued. "They showed me that true wealth isn't measured by what you own; it's measured by who you protect. Maisie and Jonah saved my heart just as much as we saved their lives."

The entire ballroom erupted into a standing ovation. Guests clapped, cheered, and wiped away tears of joy.

Maisie let go of her father's hand, walked over to Holden, and reached up.

Holden smiled, leaning down to scoop her up into his arms.

Maisie leaned in close to his ear and tapped his shoulder three times rapidly.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Holden looked at her, his brow lifting with happy curiosity. "Three taps, sweet pea? What does three taps mean?"

Maisie wrapped her tiny arms around his neck, kissing his cheek. "Three taps means... I love you, Uncle Holden."

Holden squeezed her tight, his heart swelling with a happiness so profound it illuminated every corner of his world. "I love you too, Maisie. More than all the stars in the sky."
