Chapter 6 - The Architect of Shadows

The next two weeks were a masterclass in duality. To Eric and Diane, I was the broken, submissive wife who had finally accepted her place. I made dinners, I kept the house clean, and I listened to Diane’s endless complaints about "ungrateful lenders" without blinking.

But beneath the surface, I was the architect of their destruction.

I wasn't just saving money anymore; I was systematically dismantling Eric’s world. Using the administrative access I’d maintained for his business—which he was too arrogant to change—I began auditing his accounts. I found exactly what I suspected: he had been skimming from his own firm to cover his mother’s gambling debts for years. He wasn't just a thief in his marriage; he was a criminal in his career.

I didn't steal the money. That would make me a criminal, too. Instead, I carefully documented every transfer, every fake invoice, and every signature he’d forged in my name. I created a digital trail that led straight to his front door.

Every night, while they discussed how they would "manage" me after the baby was born, I was uploading files to a secure cloud server that only my lawyer could access. I was no longer afraid of the house. I was already living in my next life, one where Eric and Diane were footnotes in a story about my survival.
