With Vanessa gone, Nathan didn't rush to replace her. He spent months renovating the estate, not for optics, but for life. The cold, limestone halls were softened with color; the garden was opened to the staff; and the massive, echoing ballroom was repurposed into a community center for the local families in the neighborhood.
Claire stayed, but not as a housekeeper. She transitioned into the role of Estate Director, overseeing the philanthropic initiatives that Nathan had finally begun to fund with genuine passion.
Their relationship remained a slow, steady burn. It wasn't the fiery, toxic combustion of Nathan and Vanessa. It was a partnership based on shared survival and mutual respect. Nathan learned to bake cakes—or at least, he learned to supervise Lily’s attempts at them—and Claire learned that she didn't have to make herself invisible to deserve a space in the world.
