Chapter 6 - The Long-Awaited Morning

The story ends on Lily’s fourth birthday. There were no cameras, no three hundred guests, and no emerald gowns. It was a sunny, simple morning in the garden. Nathan sat on the grass, teaching Lily how to use a real camera, while Claire watched from the patio, holding two mugs of coffee.

The house behind them was no longer a monument to his wealth; it was a home. The vault was open, and the treasures inside weren't gold or stocks—they were the small, quiet sounds of a child laughing and the steady presence of someone who had once been invisible.

Nathan stood up and walked toward Claire, taking one of the mugs. He looked at the mansion, then back at her. "I thought I owned everything," he said softly. "But I never owned a single morning until now."

Claire smiled, leaning against the railing. The gardener waved at them, and Lily ran over to show them a picture she had taken of a bumblebee. Everything was simple. Everything was real. The trauma of the past was a ghost that no longer had a home in their halls. As the sun reached its zenith, warming the stone paths of the estate, Claire finally felt that she had truly arrived—not as a guest, not as a worker, but as the heart of a home she had helped to save. They were safe, they were together, and for the first time in either of their lives, they were enough.
