Spring arrived in Chicago, bringing with it a vibrant explosion of green across the manicured lawns of the Sterling estate.
The heavy iron gates, once a symbol of exclusion and cold corporate dominance, now stood wide open during the day, welcoming friends, partners, and local families attending the estate’s newly opened public botanical gardens.
On a bright Saturday afternoon, a small, private celebration was held in the courtyard beneath the sprawling branches of the ancient Japanese maple tree. There were no politicians trying to curry favor, no corrupt magnates whispering behind crystal glasses, and no hidden agendas.
Just true friends, loyal enforcers like Victor who had bled for the family, and a mother and daughter finally safe in the sunshine.
Lily raced across the emerald grass, chasing a golden butterfly in a bright yellow dress, her copper curls bouncing with every step. Tucked securely under her arm was her faithful blue rabbit, its repaired ear proudly displaying a tiny, sparkling silver brooch shaped like a crown-falcon.
Adrian and Isabelle stood on the stone veranda, watching her play.
Isabelle leaned her head against her brother’s shoulder, taking a deep breath of the sweet spring air.
