Chapter 6 - Thunder and Labor

By midnight, the sky above the Wyoming mountains had turned pitch black. A monster storm swept across the valley, roaring like a furnace of wind and ice. Thunder rolled through the peaks, shaking the foundations of the estate, while heavy sheets of freezing rain slammed against the glass windows.

In the master suite, Lena lay on the bed, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

Her body was racked with sudden, searing agony. Contractions—hard, relentless, and weeks too early—were tearing through her lower abdomen.

Dr. Vance was already at her side, her face set in deep concentration as she monitored the heart rate monitors strapped around Lena's swollen belly.

"The stress, the physical trauma from last week... her body is going into labor early," Dr. Vance shouted over a deafening crash of thunder. "We need to deliver this baby tonight, right now!"

Outside the medical suite, the alarms were silent, but the estate was alive with lethal preparation.

Down at the main perimeter gates, four black trucks with blacked-out windows cut their headlights as they rolled off the access road. Dozens of heavily armed men in tactical gear poured out into the storm, led by Viktor Vance—a scarred, cold-eyed mercenary—and Wade Fallon, who clutched a shotgun with shaking, whiskey-soaked hands.

"The heavy gates are electronic," Wade hissed into Vance's ear, pointing through the sheeting rain. "If we blow the power generator near the fence line, the perimeter locks reset automatically!"

"Move in!" Vance barked to his men over the radio. "Kill everyone inside except the woman. Mr. Graves dies tonight!"

The mercenaries rushed the perimeter fence, firing silenced automatic rifles at the security cameras. They set breaching charges along the concrete wall, sparking bright red lights in the darkness.

Inside the command room, Jude stood before a wall of glowing security monitors. He wore tactical armor over his dark clothes, a silenced sidearm holstered at his chest.

Macon walked up beside him. "Boss, Vance’s team has breached the outer gate. They think they've caught us off guard."

Jude didn't even blink. "Activate the thermal grid. Seal the inner compound. Do not let a single gunshot be heard near the medical wing. Lena is in labor."

"Understood," Macon grinned darkly. "Perimeter defense... go live."

Outside, Viktor Vance and his men stepped through the blown-out section of the gate, expecting chaos and unprepared guards.

Instead, blinding floodlights suddenly erupted from every angle, turning the pitch-black night into glaring, stadium-bright daylight.

Before Vance could scream an order, high-caliber sniper fire cracked through the thunder. Mercenaries dropped to the muddy ground three at a time. High-tech defense turrets rose from concealed housings in the perimeter wall, unleashing a terrifying hail of non-lethal and lethal suppression fire.

Panicked, Wade dropped his shotgun and fell into the mud, crawling wildly behind a concrete pillar. "What is this?! You said they weren't ready!"

"It's a trap!" Vance screamed, firing wildly into the glaring lights before a high-velocity round caught him in the shoulder, throwing him backward into the rain.

Within seven chaotic minutes, Vance's private army was completely dismantled. Mercenaries lay disarmed, wounded, and surrendering in the mud, pinned down by Jude's elite security team.

Wade crawled frantically toward the woods, his face smeared with cold mud, trembling with violent terror.

Suddenly, a heavy combat boot stepped onto his outstretched hand, crushing his fingers into the frozen earth.

Wade screamed in agony, looking up.

Jude Graves stood over him in the pouring rain. He looked like an ancient judge of the underworld—cold, merciless, and completely untouched by the chaos around him.

"Please!" Wade sobbed, his bravado entirely gone as he stared up into Jude's dark, terrifying eyes. "Please don't kill me! Take her! Take the land! Take everything! Just let me live!"

Jude leaned down, gripping Wade by the front of his jacket and lifting him off the ground as easily as a sack of trash.

"Death is too easy for you, Fallon," Jude said, his voice cutting through the sound of rain and thunder like a executioner's blade. "You're going to face something much worse. You're going to face justice."
