Chapter 7 - The Reckoning

At 3:15 AM, as the storm outside began to clear into a quiet, icy drizzle, a tiny, piercing cry echoed through the warm medical suite.
"It's a girl," Dr. Vance whispered softly, tears in her own eyes as she carefully wrapped the newborn infant in a warm, sterile blanket and laid her gently onto Lena’s chest.
Lena wept openly, her arms gathering the tiny, fragile bundle against her heart. The baby had a tuft of soft dark hair and tiny, perfect fingers that immediately reached out, instinctively curling around Lena’s thumb.
"She’s small, but her lungs are strong," Dr. Vance smiled warmly. "She’s a fighter, just like her mother."
"Opal," Lena whispered, her voice choked with profound love. "Her name is Opal."
The door opened quietly, and Jude stepped into the room. He had changed out of his tactical gear, wearing a clean charcoal sweater. His hands were clean, his dark eyes softening instantly as he looked at Lena and the newborn child.
He walked over to the side of the bed and looked down at the tiny baby.
"Is she alright?" Jude asked, his deep voice hushed with rare reverence.
"She's perfect," Lena whispered, wiping a tear from her cheek. "Jude... is it over?"
Jude reached down, his finger gently stroking the baby's tiny cheek. "It's over. Wade, Sheriff Dawes, and Viktor Vance are in federal custody."
While Lena had been in labor, Jude’s legal team and intelligence agents had dismantled the Fallon family’s entire network in less than three hours.
State troopers and federal agents, backed by mountains of undisputed evidence supplied by Jude and Curtis—including financial fraud, illegal weapons trafficking, corrupt bribery, and decades of horrific domestic torture—had swept through the county.
Sheriff Dawes was arrested at his home, stripped of his badge, and charged with federal conspiracy. Darlene Fallon was taken into custody for her involvement in Lena’s unlawful imprisonment and severe physical abuse.
And Wade Fallon? Wade was held in a high-security federal holding facility, facing dozens of felony charges that guaranteed he would spend the rest of his natural life behind bars, stripped of his land, his name, and his freedom.
"The Fallon ranch has been seized by the state," Jude told Lena softly. "And I bought back your grandmother's original land. All fifty acres. The deed is in your name, Lena. It's yours again. Forever."
Lena looked up at him, her pale green eyes shining with overwhelming gratitude. "I don't know how to ever repay you, Jude."
May you like
Jude sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat.
"You don't owe me anything, Lena," he whispered. "You paid your debt nine years ago when you saved a dying boy in a shed. Everything I do now... I do because I want to."
