Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Happy Ending

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a brilliant palette of orange, pink, and gold across the Westchester sky, our guests gathered around the patio table for dinner.
There were no formal speeches, no hollow toasts to fake family legacy, and no forced smiles.
Just genuine laughter, passed dishes of delicious food, the sound of clinking glasses, and the sweet, gurgling coos of a happy baby sitting in a high chair right between his mother and father.
Looking back, that terrifying night on New Year’s Eve felt like a lifetime ago—a distant nightmare from another reality.
The physical scars on Maya’s body had long since faded into a thin, silver line, hidden beneath the clothes of a woman who had reclaimed her strength. The financial losses had been fully recovered, multiplied, and secured. And the toxic anchors that had dragged our lives down for years had been permanently cut away by the cold, sharp blade of justice.
We had built our lives from the ashes of their greed, forging something infinitely stronger, purer, and more enduring out of the fire.
Later that night, after our guests had departed and the house grew quiet, I stood in the darkened hallway outside Liam’s nursery.
Through the crack in the door, I watched Maya leaning over the crib, softly singing a lullaby to our sleeping son. The moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating her face with a serene, ethereal glow.
She looked up, caught me watching from the doorway, and smiled—a warm, knowing smile that made every hardship, every sacrifice, and every battle entirely worth it.

I walked into the room, wrapped my arms around both of them, and whispered into the quiet dark:
“Happy New Year, my loves. Forever.”
