Chapter 6 - The Counter-Strike

The transformation in Isla was profound. The porcelain doll had shattered, and in its place was a blade of tempered steel.

We spent the next seventy-two hours in a blur of activity. We stopped being the prey. We became the shadow agents of our own survival. I contacted Sarah, one of the women from Julian’s "collection." She was a high-powered defense attorney in the city, the one person Julian had never been able to fully silence.

"He thrives on the idea that he is untouchable," Sarah said over an encrypted call. "He uses his family’s philanthropy to mask the rot. If we want to take him down, we don't go to the police. We go to the Board of Directors of his father’s foundation. We leak the documents to the financial auditors."

"They’re his friends," I countered.

"Not when the evidence shows he’s embezzling from their personal accounts to fund his 'side projects,'" she replied.

We worked through the night, cross-referencing Julian’s illicit financial activity with the abuse files. We found the smoking gun: an offshore account titled 'Legacy' that linked the family’s charitable trust to human trafficking circles. It wasn't just physical abuse; it was organized crime.

Isla took the lead on the final phase. She contacted the other women. One by one, they agreed to step forward. They weren't just victims; they were witnesses, and together, they formed an army.

We didn't just want a restraining order. We wanted an indictment.

As the sun rose on the fourth day, I looked at my daughter. She was sitting at the kitchen table, her laptop glowing, her eyes fierce. The bruises on her face were fading, but the resolve in her expression was permanent.

"The gala is on Friday," Isla said, her voice steady. "They’re going to announce the new foundation wing. Every major donor, every journalist, every politician will be in that room."

"And that," I said, "is where we finish this."

We had the invite. We had the evidence. And for the first time in years, we had the power.
