Chapter 8 - The Public Reckoning

The climax didn't arrive with a scream, but with the sudden, harsh glow of a digital projection.
As Arthur Sterling stepped onto the stage to begin his keynote, the large screen behind him—intended to showcase the 'philanthropic achievements' of the family—flickered. The images of schools and hospitals vanished, replaced by a scrolling list of wire transfers, offshore account numbers, and the encrypted video files from Julian’s "collection."
The room went deathly silent.
I looked at the giant screen, then at the audience. Faces paled. The whispers started, spreading like wildfire. Then, the audio track began—a recording of Julian’s voice, cold and clinical, detailing his 'methods' for breaking a woman’s spirit.
"Get that off!" Arthur roared, his face turning a mottled, furious red. He gestured wildly to his security team. "Cut the power!"
But it was too late. The files were being mirrored on every phone in the room, sent via a pre-programmed blast to every guest’s email address, and uploaded to the major news outlets.
Julian looked at the screen, then at us. His composure shattered. The 'perfect husband' mask fell away, revealing the hollow, terrified coward beneath. He lunged at Isla, his hands reaching for her throat, driven by a primal, desperate rage.

"You bitch!" he screamed, his voice cracking. "You ruined everything!"
He didn't make it to her. Before he could touch her, security—not his hired goons, but the federal agents Sarah had alerted—tackled him to the floor. The image of the Sterling heir, the city’s golden boy, being pinned to the ballroom floor in front of the city's elite, was the final nail in their coffin.
