Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for the Moretti Empire

Two weeks had passed since the siege of the Moretti estate.
The bullet holes in the marble pillars had been repaired, the shattered chandelier replaced with a modern masterpiece of crystal and steel, and the heavy iron gates at the entrance reinforced with biometric security scanners.
Outside, the Atlantic ocean crashed peacefully against the jagged coastal rocks under a brilliant, cloudless blue sky.
In the sunlit east wing conservatory, Maisie and Rosie were happily finger-painting at a small wooden table, giggling as smudges of blue and yellow paint smeared across their paper.
Elise sat in a cushioned armchair by the window, a book resting unread in her lap as she watched the twins with a soft, content smile.
The heavy mahogany door clicked open, and Vincent walked in.
He had discarded his formal suit jacket; he wore a crisp white button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing the corded muscle and scars of a man who had survived a war and come out the other side.
The twins immediately dropped their paintbrushes.
"Daddy!" they chorused, running across the room to wrap their small arms around his legs.
Vincent knelt down, sweeping both girls up into a powerful, effortless embrace, burying his face against their dark curls as a genuine, unburdened smile broke across his handsome face.
"Did you behave for Elise today?" Vincent asked, setting them down gently.
"We painted a house for you and Elise!" Rosie announced proudly, holding up a sheet of paper covered in bright, chaotic colors.
Vincent looked up, his dark eyes locking onto Elise across the room. He walked over slowly, the commanding aura of the mafia boss replaced by a quiet, steadfast devotion that belonged entirely to her.
He stopped beside her chair, reaching down to take her hand in his. His calloused fingers intertwined perfectly with hers.
"The Falcone syndicate signed the restructuring agreement this morning," Vincent said softly, his voice smooth and deep. "Our shipping lanes are secure. The eastern seaboard belongs to the Moretti family—on our terms."
Elise looked up at him, a playful spark dancing in her eyes. "And the new management?"
Vincent’s smile widened, a warmth lighting up his dark eyes that the staff had never thought possible. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined box, opening it to reveal a magnificent ring set with a rare, deep-blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds.
"The new management," Vincent murmured, his voice dropping into a register that made her heart race, "has decided that hiring a nanny was the best tactical error I ever made in my life."
He knelt down on one knee right there in the sunny conservatory, the powerful crime lord of New York humbling himself completely before the woman who had brought his broken home back to life.
"Elise Navarro," Vincent said, looking up into her eyes with absolute, unyielding devotion. "You walked into the darkest house on the East Coast, danced in rubber gloves, and taught my daughters how to laugh again. Stay with us. Not as staff. Not as a guest. Stay as my wife, and let me spend the rest of my life making sure you never have to be afraid of the dark again."
Tears welled up in Elise’s eyes, but her smile was radiant and true.

"Yes," Elise whispered, her voice ringing clear and steady in the quiet room. "Yes, Vincent. I'll stay."
As Vincent slid the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, passionate embrace, Maisie and Rosie cheered, clapping their paint-stained hands together. Outside, the sun shone brightly over the estate, washing away the shadows of the past and marking the dawn of a brand-new dynasty.
