Chapter 3 - The Brother's Wrath

By 6:30 a.m., the morning sun was casting long, golden beams across the snow-dusted peaks of the Rocky Mountains, but inside the family lounge of Saint Anthony Medical Center, the atmosphere was freezing.
Justin sat on a faux-leather couch with his head in his hands. His knuckles were raw, bruised from where he had punched a vending machine in the hallway after learning the full extent of the betrayal.
I walked into the room, holding my encrypted laptop in one hand and the investigator's folder in the other. I placed a warm cup of black coffee on the table in front of him.
Justin looked up. His eyes were bloodshot, his face pale with a mixture of shock and deep, agonizing humiliation.
"They're out of surgery," Justin whispered, his voice cracking. "The doctors had to use a localized medical solvent and minor surgical scraping to separate them. They're both in recovery rooms down the hall. Maya... Maya's mother is on her way from Boulder, but I told her not to bother. We're done, Sabrina. I want a divorce before the sun sets today."
"You'll get your divorce, Justin," I said quietly, sitting down beside him. "And you'll get custody of the house, the savings, and every penny she tried to squeeze out of you. But before we do any of that, I need you to look at something."
I opened my laptop and slid it across the table.
Justin frowned, scrolling through the scanned PDF of the medical authorization form from the Cherry Hills Reproductive Health Clinic.
"What is this?" Justin asked, squinting. "An appendectomy form? Why are you showing me this?"
"Look at the second page, Justin. Read the signature line and the addendum."
Justin scrolled down. As his eyes scanned the text—Permanent sterilization via bilateral salpingectomy authorized by spouse under emergency medical protocol—the color drained entirely from his face. He looked from the screen up to me, his jaw dropping in absolute horror.
"He... Kenneth did this? Without your consent?" Justin breathed, his voice trembling with a terrifying fury. "That's... that's criminal assault. That's mutilation!"
"It's worse than that," I replied coldly, opening the financial folders from the safe. "It was premeditated asset protection. If we had children, my father’s trust mandates an immediate transfer of voting shares to the direct heirs. By sterilizing me, Kenneth ensured that if I ever tried to leave him, I would walk away with nothing, while he maneuvered behind the scenes to seize control of Rollins Global."
Justin didn't say a word. He stood up so fast his chair tipped backward, crashing onto the linoleum floor. The veins in his neck stood out like thick ropes.
"Where is he?" Justin growled, turning toward the door.
"Justin, stop," I commanded, my voice cutting through his rage with executive authority. "If you go into his recovery room and punch him, you play right into his hands. He'll press assault charges, get a restraining order, and use your temper to paint you as the unhinged party in court. That is not how we destroy him."
Justin froze, his chest heaving as he fought for control. He looked at me—really looked at me—for the first time since we were kids. He saw the cold, calculated determination in my eyes, and he slowly stepped back from the door.
"What do you want to do, Sabrina?" Justin asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
"I want to take everything," I said, closing the laptop with a sharp snap. "His freedom, his money, his company, and his reputation. And I want to do it legally, systematically, and publicly."
Right then, the door to the family lounge swung open. A nurse walked in, looking nervously between the two of us.
"Mr. and Mrs. Rollins—excuse me, Mr. Rollins and Mr. Carter," she corrected herself hurriedly. "Patients Kenneth Rollins and Maya Carter have regained consciousness. They are asking for their legal representatives... and for you, Mrs. Rollins."

I stood up, smoothing down the lapels of my black blazer.
"Tell them I'll be right there," I said. "And let security know that my brother and I have a few visitors coming by later this morning."
