Chapter 6 - The Frozen Assets

Within forty-eight hours of my visit to the hospital, the legal tsunami hit Kenneth with terrifying speed.
Federal marshals executed search warrants on his Cherry Hills Village home, seizing his personal computers, financial ledgers, encrypted hard drives, and all remaining documents related to his shadow consulting firm. The media circus outside our neighborhood was relentless; satellite news vans camped out by the wrought-iron gates, broadcasting live updates on the "Glue Scandal Billionaire Fall."
I had already packed my personal belongings and moved into a private penthouse suite downtown, overlooking the city skyline. Justin and his kids were staying with our father at his estate in Vail while the dust settled.
On Wednesday afternoon, my phone rang. It was the lead federal investigator handling the corporate espionage case.
"Mrs. Rollins," Agent Miller’s voice came through the speaker. "We’ve finished our initial forensic audit of Kenneth’s offshore accounts through Summit Holdings. You were right. He wasn't just working with Apex Capital; he was actively positioning himself to trigger a hostile takeover of Rollins Global by engineering a fake liquidity crisis."
"Did he act alone, Agent Miller?" I asked, sipping my coffee as I watched the snow fall over Denver.
"Not entirely. He had assistance from Marcus Vance and a handful of mid-level compliance officers who have already started cooperating with our office in exchange for reduced sentencing recommendations. But here’s the most interesting part, Mrs. Rollins."
"Go on."
"When we searched Kenneth’s personal safety deposit box at the downtown branch of Alpine Bank, we found something else—something that wasn't related to corporate espionage."
Agent Miller paused for a second, his tone turning somber.
"We found a journal, handwritten by Kenneth. In it, he detailed not just the financial plans, but... a timeline of your marriage. He planned every step from the day you met. He targeted your family’s wealth deliberately, using Maya as an inside asset to monitor household routines and security codes while you traveled."
My grip tightened on the phone. Even though I knew Kenneth was a sociopath, seeing the cold, calculated mechanics of his betrayal laid out in his own handwriting sent a chill down my spine.
"Thank you, Agent Miller. Please keep me updated on the indictment schedule."
"Will do, ma'am. And for what it's worth... congratulations on seeing through it before it was too late."
I hung up the phone and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Down on the street, tiny yellow cabs cut through the slushy snow.

Kenneth thought he could manipulate my life, erase my future, and steal my family’s legacy. He thought he was the chess player moving pieces across a board.
He didn't realize he was playing against a grandmaster who had just sacrificed her rook to trap his king.
