Chapter 6 - The Turning Point

The courtroom drama was the public turning point, but the private one happened two days later in a quiet coffee shop. I had received a text from an unknown number: “I know what she did to you. I can help. I was the nurse for the family trust she managed.”
Her name was Elena. She had been the executor of my mother’s "philanthropic" funds for years, the person who signed the checks that made my mother look like a saint. She sat across from me, looking exhausted and terrified.
"She’s been laundering money through those 'investments' for years, Ethan," Elena whispered, sliding a thick envelope across the table. "I didn't know about the baby. I didn't know she was hurting people. I just thought she was a wealthy woman with a bit of a temper. But when I saw the news report about the police being called to your home, I knew she had gone too far."
The envelope contained bank records—proof that Linda had been skimming money from the very inheritance she claimed to be "saving" for me and my children. It wasn't just abuse; it was white-collar crime.
"Why tell me now?" I asked.

"Because she threatened my license when I asked questions about the missing funds," Elena replied. "She thinks she’s untouchable. But she’s not. And frankly? I’m tired of being afraid of her."
With this new evidence, the scope of our defense shifted. This was no longer just about a domestic dispute; it was about exposing the corruption that fueled my mother’s power.
