Chapter 9 - The Final Audit

The public hearing was a spectacle of modern justice. The courtroom was packed, filled with the same elite socialites who had sat in silence at the ballroom. Now, they were witnesses to the complete evaporation of a dynasty.

Elena stood at the podium. She didn't look like a woman who had just fought a war; she looked calm, composed, and impossibly steady. She didn't have to say a word. The prosecution, guided by the avalanche of irrefutable data Elena had anonymously delivered to the District Attorney, did the work for her.

Beatrice sat at the defense table, a hollowed-out version of the woman who had once commanded the city. Her lawyers were scrambling, their arguments collapsing as they realized their client had accidentally handed over the keys to her own destruction. When the judge read the verdict—guilty on all counts, including fraud, racketeering, and obstruction of justice—the silence in the room was absolute.

It was the same silence as that night in the ballroom, but the power dynamic had inverted.

Beatrice looked at Elena, her eyes searching for a glimmer of pity. She found nothing but the cold, hard reflection of her own cruelty. Elena walked over to her, not to gloat, but to finalize the chapter.

"You called my daughter trash," Elena said, her voice carrying across the silent chamber. "You tried to erase her existence because it didn't fit your aesthetic. But look around, Beatrice. The money, the status, the legacy—they are all gone. My daughter is safe, she is loved, and she is brave. That is the only legacy that matters."

Beatrice was led away in handcuffs, a woman stripped of the only thing she had ever valued: her image.
