Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

The mansion was quiet for the first time in weeks. Dominic stood near the entryway, giving orders to security teams to secure the perimeter and clear out the press swarming outside the estate gates.

I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline. For weeks, I had sat in that chair, forced to play the weak victim while snake after snake slithered into my sanctuary. Now, the air felt clear.

A soft footstep sounded behind me.

I turned to see Clara standing near the threshold, holding a silver tray with a warm cup of coffee—black, no sugar, exactly how I liked it. She looked hesitant, as if unsure whether she still had a place in this room now that the charade was over.

"Sir," she said quietly, keeping her head slightly lowered. "I brought your coffee. I can leave if you need time alone."

"Clara," I said gently. "Come here."

She walked forward, setting the tray on the side table.

I looked at her closely. Beneath her simple servant’s uniform was a woman who had shown more courage, integrity, and loyalty than any of the high-society elites I had surrounded myself with for years.

"How did you know?" I asked her. "How did you know Vanessa was lying?"

Clara looked up, her eyes bright and honest. "I saw her in the study two weeks ago, sir. She was going through your private safe while you were resting. When I confronted her, she threatened to have me fired and blacklisted. But I knew you were a good man. When your father was alive, he paid for my mother’s medical treatments. I owed your family everything. I couldn't let them destroy you."

I stared at her, deeply moved. "You risked your life staying in this house while they planned my murder."

"I did what was right, sir," she said simply.
