Chapter 6 - The Invitation

By Sunday afternoon, the formal CPS assessment was completed in less than twenty minutes.

Investigator Jenkins didn't even need to look at all seventy-two hours of footage; ten minutes of watching Evelyn and Melissa verbally terrorize Lily, combined with the police dispatch logs and the medical notes confirming my daughter’s psychological trauma, was more than enough to close the anonymous referral as unfounded and malicious.

In fact, Jenkins went a step further, helping me draft a formal petition for a permanent restraining order against both Evelyn and Melissa, citing harassment, malicious reporting, and emotional abuse of a minor.

By Tuesday morning, the court papers had been officially served.

Evelyn and Melissa were legally barred from coming within five hundred yards of my home, my workplace, or my daughter’s preschool. Any violation would result in immediate criminal arrest without bail.

Yet, knowing my mother, a restraining order on paper wasn't going to stop her need for control. She lived for drama; she thrived on the belief that she was the ultimate matriarch whose word was law.

So, I decided to give her one last stage to perform on—right where she least expected it.

On Wednesday evening, I sent a single, calendar-invite email to both Evelyn and Melissa from a newly created burner email address, disguised as a neutral family mediation coordinator:

Subject: Mandatory Family Dispute Resolution Conference - Friday, 10:00 AM. Location: County Bar Association Conference Room B, Downtown.

I knew they would jump at the chance. They believed they were being summoned by a legal advocate to negotiate my submission and regain access to my home and life.

Little did they know, Conference Room B wasn't booked for family mediation.

It was booked for a formal deposition related to their upcoming criminal charges for filing a false police report and malicious mischief.
