Chapter 7 - The Avalanche

The internet didn’t just turn on Giselle—it obliterated her.

Within thirty minutes of the video release, #CruelHeiress vanished, replaced by #ArrestGiselle, #BoycottJustin, and #ProtectToby.

The unedited footage received forty million views in three hours. Parent groups, child advocacy organizations, and high-profile celebrities reposted the video, expressing absolute horror at the violence inflicted on a five-year-old child.

Comments flooded in by the hundreds of thousands:

“She hit a baby over a CUPCAKE? Send her to prison!”

“The husband is an absolute coward! Telling her to let it go while his mom hits his child?!”

“Look at the mark on that poor baby’s cheek! That’s assault!”

“Serena is a queen for taking her money back and walking away!”

By 5:00 PM, the local news channel that had interviewed Giselle issued an immediate, crawling on-air apology, scrubbed the interview from their website, and handed the unedited footage over to the District Attorney’s office.

At 6:15 PM, two police cruisers pulled up outside the cheap motel where Giselle, Justin, and Felicia were staying.

Giselle was led out of room 114 in handcuffs, her hair a wild, tangled mess, covering her face with a cheap towel as news cameras flashed in the parking lot. She was officially charged with felony child abuse and assault on a minor.

Inside the motel room, Justin sat on the edge of a stained mattress, staring at his phone screen in horror.

Every single one of his business contacts had blocked his number.

His corporate credit cards were declined.

His sports car had just been towed away by a repossession company acting on behalf of Serena’s legal team.

His phone rang. It was the CEO of Vanguard Logistics—the man who served directly beneath Serena.

Justin picked up frantically. “Hello?! Mark! Listen to me, I can explain—”

“Justin Vance,” Mark’s voice was as cold as iron. “You are officially terminated from your position at Vanguard Logistics for gross ethical violations and unauthorized misappropriation of corporate funds. A criminal referral has been submitted to the State Prosecutor.”

“Mark! Please! I have nowhere to go!” Justin sobbed. “I don’t have any money!”

“You should have thought about that before you let your mother hit the owner’s son,” Mark said, and hung up the phone.
