Chapter 10 - A Mother’s Sovereign Kingdom

One year later.
The morning sun shone warmly over the vast green lawns of the Sterling Estate in Highland Crest.
A grand outdoor party was underway, but it wasn’t a fake, tense gathering for high-society parasites. It was a joyful, colorful sixth birthday party for Toby.
Inflatable bouncy castles lined the garden, laughter filled the air, and dozens of young children were running around with ice cream cones and party hats.
Nora—the former country club waitress who had been fired by Giselle—was now the full-time Director of Event Hospitality for the Sterling Foundation, earning three times her old salary. She smiled as she handed Toby a massive, custom-built superhero cake.
“Make a wish, Toby!” Nora cheered.
Toby, now glowing with health, confidence, and happiness, blew out his six candles as the crowd of friends and family applauded loudly.
Serena stood on the sunlit terrace, watching her son laugh with his friends.
Arthur Sterling stepped up beside her, handing her a glass of chilled champagne.
“Justin signed the final divorce decree this morning,” Arthur reported quietly. “He surrendered all claims to marital assets in exchange for the trust dropping the corporate fraud charges. He’s currently working as a night-shift clerk at a car rental agency near the airport.”
“And Felicia?” Serena asked softly.
“Living in a small studio apartment, working retail,” Arthur replied. “And Giselle has eighteen months remaining on her sentence at the women’s correctional facility.”
Serena nodded, feeling no hatred, no anger, and no regret. Only a profound, beautiful peace.
Toby ran up the terrace stairs, his face covered in chocolate frosting, holding a small toy race car in his hands.
“Mommy! Look what Mr. Harrison got me!” Toby beamed, pointing to Harrison Vance, who was waving from the lawn below.
Serena knelt down on the warm stone patio, wiping a speck of chocolate from her son’s cheek with her thumb—gently, lovingly, and protectively.
“It’s wonderful, baby,” Serena smiled, looking into her son’s clear, happy eyes. “Are you having a good birthday?”
“It’s the best birthday ever,” Toby said, wrapping his little arms tightly around her neck. “Because nobody is mean to us anymore.”

Serena held her son close against her heart, looking out over her kingdom, her family, and the bright, endless future they had built together.
“No one will ever be mean to us again, my sweet boy,” Serena whispered into his hair. “Never again.”
