Chapter 8 - Public Execution

The ballroom exploded into murmurs as news reporters pushed toward the front row, recording every second on live television.
"This is an outrage!" William yelled, his face turning dark purple. "On what charges?! My family donates millions to this city!"
Arthur stepped forward, opening his briefcase and pulling out an official federal warrant.
"The charges include conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, attempted forced termination of a minor, bribery of public officials, and solicitation of mercenary force," Arthur announced smoothly, his voice carried by the room's central microphones.
I stepped closer to Celeste, looking down at her shuddering frame.
"You told my daughter that her child would never belong in your family," I said, my voice carrying the weight of an absolute conviction. "You believed your money made you invisible. You believed an army veteran’s daughter was defenseless."
I pulled out a small digital audio player, connected it to the main podium microphone, and hit play.
Celeste’s voice echoed throughout the entire Plaza ballroom, crisp, clear, and unmistakable: “Victor, make sure the girl loses the child... Marcus isn't fathering an heir with a parasite.”
Gasps of horror rippled through the audience of senators, judges, and billionaires. Several high-society women covered their mouths in disgust. Senator Harrison—a long-time donor to the Vanguard campaign who sat at the head table—immediately stood up, buttoned his suit, and walked out of the room without looking back.
Celeste began to hyperventilate, stumbling backward against the head table. "No... that's... that's modified! That's a fake!"
"The voice recording was verified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation two hours ago, Miss Vanguard," the lead federal agent stated, stepping forward with steel handcuffs. "Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
As the steel cuffs clicked around Celeste’s wrists, Marcus rushed onto the stage, sobbing hysterically. "Celeste, I told you! I told you we should have apologized! I told you!"
"Shut up, you idiot!" Celeste screamed as the agents escorted her toward the exit, her emerald dress trailing behind her while dozens of cameras captured her downfall for the entire world to see.
William Vanguard collapsed into a chair, his head in his hands, as news feeds across the nation broadcasted the live arrest of the Vanguard heiress.

I stood in the center of the stage, adjusted my uniform cap, and looked at the broken remains of the billionaire family.
"The Hartwell family sends its regards," I said quietly.
