Chapter 5 - The Parents' Betrayal

While Nathan was learning the devastating reality of his corporate irrelevance in the boardroom, a parallel catastrophe was unfolding at the Providence mansion.

Arthur and Eleanor Reed were sitting in their sunroom, attempting to sip their morning tea, when a commercial moving truck rolled up the long gravel driveway, followed by two armed bailiffs and a representative from the corporate holding trust.

Arthur threw open the French doors, stepping out onto the stone patio with a look of outraged entitlement.

“What is the meaning of this truck?!” Arthur demanded, puffing out his chest. “Do you know who I am? I am the father of the CEO of this estate!”

The trust representative—a sharp-eyed woman in a tailored navy suit—stepped forward, holding a legal portfolio.

“Mr. and Mrs. Reed, you are formally being served with an eviction notice and a thirty-day property surrender mandate,” she announced calmly.

Eleanor gasped, stepping out onto the patio behind her husband. “Eviction?! From our home?! Nathan owns this house! He told us we could live here for the rest of our lives!”

“Mr. Reed does not own this house, madam,” the representative replied coldly. “The estate was purchased three years ago using funds from Reed Culinary Enterprises holding trust to rescue you from foreclosure. The deed has always been held exclusively in Hannah Reed’s name. As of today, the corporate board has voted to reclaim the property for executive restructuring.”

Arthur’s face turned a mottled purple. “This is an outrage! My son will sue you into the stone age! He’s the head of this family!”

“Your son has just been stripped of his corporate authority and locked out of his accounts,” the representative said bluntly. “I suggest you start packing your antiques, Mr. Reed. You have forty-eight hours before the locks are officially changed.”

Panicked and desperate, Arthur immediately pulled out his cell phone and dialed Nathan’s number.

The phone rang twice before Nathan answered, his voice breathless and frantic.

“Dad? Dad, thank God—listen to me, everything is gone. Hannah has the controlling shares, the bank accounts are frozen, we’re completely ruined—!”

“What are you talking about?!” Arthur shouted into the phone, his aristocratic composure entirely gone. “There are movers at the front gate! They’re evicting us from the mansion! You told us this house was yours! You told us we were safe!”

“I didn't know!” Nathan yelled back, the sound of breaking glass and desk slamming echoing through the phone line. “She handled all the paperwork years ago! She set a trap for both of us!”

Eleanor snatched the phone from Arthur’s hand, her voice shrill with hysteria. “Nathan! Fix this right now! Call your lawyer! Call your mistress—!”

“Don’t mention Brooke!” Nathan screamed. “Brooke walked out of the boardroom ten minutes ago when she found out my corporate cards were declined! She’s gone!”

Arthur and Eleanor stared at each other in stunned, horrified silence as the phone line went dead with a sharp click.

The great Reed family dynasty—built on arrogance, deceit, and parasitism—had collapsed in less than forty-eight hours.
