Chapter 9 - A Feast for the Soul

Thanksgiving Evening.

The dining room of my new five-bedroom home in Paradise Valley was filled with warm golden light, the rich aroma of roasted turkey, homemade stuffing, fresh gravy, and warm apple pie.

Soft jazz music played through the house speakers.

Around the massive solid-oak dining table sat my parents, who had flown in from Wyoming, my lead chemists, my CFO Marcus, Wyatt, and several close friends who had become my real family over the past two years.

My father sat at the head of the table, carving the golden-brown turkey, while my mother placed a bowl of fresh avocados and homemade salsa near the center.

Wyatt raised his glass of sparkling cider, standing up with a bright, beaming smile.

“A toast!” Wyatt announced, his voice echoing warmly through the room. “To my sister, Naomi. The woman who taught us that no matter how hard someone tries to break your table, you can always build a bigger, better one.”

Everyone cheered, clinking their crystal glasses together in a joyful chorus of laughter and love.

I sat at the head of the table, looking around at the smiling faces of the people I loved most in the world.

Two years ago, I was standing in a messy kitchen with an overturned table, listening to a man tell me I was nothing without him.

Tonight, I was sitting in my own home, surrounded by abundance, peace, and absolute freedom, knowing that I would never again let anyone make me feel small in my own house.

I took a bite of my dinner, raised my glass to the room, and smiled.

The meal was ours. The house was mine. And the future was unlimited.
