Chapter 6 - Legal Maneuvers and Restitution
Back at the Meridian Memorial private suite, I was discharged on Tuesday afternoon, returning home not to a place of fear and servitude, but to a sanctuary secured by private guards, upgraded smart-locks, and the absolute protection of my family.
Lily slept soundly in her nursery, her tiny chest rising and falling in rhythmic peace.
Marcus’s personal belongings—his designer suits, his golf clubs, and his expensive whiskey collection—had already been packed into heavy-duty cardboard boxes and stacked neatly on the front porch, accompanied by a formal copy of the eviction notice and a restraining order prohibiting him from coming within five hundred yards of either of us.
Elena walked into the living room holding a steaming mug of tea, handing it to me as I sat by the window watching the spring sunlight warm the lawn.
“The movers dropped his boxes off at his mother’s house this morning,” Elena reported, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips. “Elected matriarch Evelyn called my office four times screaming about disrespect and family honor. I forwarded her voicemails directly to the federal marshal handling his asset seizure.”
I took a slow sip of tea, feeling the warmth spread through my chest. “Do you think he realizes yet that it’s over?”
“He’s starting to,” Elena nodded, sitting down across from me. “His mother tried to post bail using her home equity line of credit, but the bank flagged the title because it’s currently tied up in a secondary tax lien Marcus hid from her. He’s completely cornered.”

“Good,” I said softly. “I don’t want revenge, Elena. I just want justice, peace, and a safe future for my daughter.”
“And you’re going to get all three,” Elena promised, reaching across the table to squeeze my hand. “The preliminary trial hearing is scheduled for next Monday. The D.A. is pushing for an expedited jury trial, and with the digital audit trails and audio recordings we have, this won't even go to a lengthy deliberation.”
