Chapter 7 - The Safe Harbor

Four months later.

The icy winds of winter had passed, giving way to the gentle, warm sunshine of early spring over Lake Geneva, Illinois.

The Voss private estate sat on a hundred acres of rolling green hills, dense pine forests, and pristine freshwater shorelines. The estate was a fortress of privacy, guarded by state-of-the-art security systems and a dedicated team led by Gavin Roarke, but inside the main house, it was a sanctuary of peace, warmth, and light.

In a sunlit master suite overlooking the shimmering lake, Amelia lay in a plush, white-lined bed.

She wore a soft silk robe, her face flushed with exhaustion, her dark hair damp with sweat, but her eyes were shining with a profound, radiant joy that illuminated the entire room.

Resting on her bare chest was a tiny, perfect newborn baby girl, wrapped in a soft yellow blanket. The baby had a small tuft of dark hair and tiny, delicate fingers that clutched tightly at Amelia’s thumb.

Beside the bed, sitting on the mattress, was Declan Voss.

The billionaire titan of industry was crying.

Unashamed, hot tears of pure, unadulterated happiness streamed down his handsome face as he stared at his daughter. He wore a simple grey cotton sweater, his dark hair messy, his broad shoulders relaxed in a way they had never been in his entire life.

"She’s perfect," Declan whispered, his deep voice trembling with emotion as he gently reached out with one large finger, stroking the newborn's velvety soft cheek. "She’s so perfect, Amelia."

"She has your eyes," Amelia smiled softly, her voice weak but full of deep love. "Dark and stubborn."

Declan let out a wet, breathless laugh, kissing Amelia’s knuckles with reverence. "Thank God she has your heart."

A quiet knock sounded at the door. Gavin Roarke stepped halfway inside, holding a small silver tray with a glass of fresh water and a document.

"Pardon the interruption, boss," Gavin said softly, a rare, genuine smile on his weathered face. "The final legal filings from Chicago came through. Elias Calloway’s trial concluded an hour ago. He was sentenced to forty-five years without parole. Savannah Calloway has signed a permanent non-disclosure and restructuring agreement. The Calloway name is officially erased from the maritime registry."

Declan didn't even look at the legal document. He simply nodded once. "Thank you, Gavin."

"Congratulations, Declan. Congratulations, Amelia," Gavin said warmly, closing the door quietly behind him to leave the family in peace.

Declan leaned down, resting his forehead gently against Amelia’s, his large hand cupping the back of her head while his other hand shielded their daughter.

"Four months ago," Declan whispered, his eyes locked onto Amelia’s, "I thought my life was over when you vanished. I thought the darkness of my world had destroyed the only thing that ever mattered to me."

"You found me, Declan," Amelia said softly, resting her hand over his heart, feeling its steady, strong beat. "You crossed the country and fought through the storm to bring me home."

"I will spend every day of my life making sure you and our daughter are safe, loved, and cherished," Declan promised, his dark eyes burning with an eternal, unbreakable vow. "No more secrets. No more corporate wars. Just us."
