Chapter 10 - A Bright Future

Ethan slid off the porch swing and dropped down onto one knee before her on the wooden deck.
He opened the velvet box. Inside rested an exquisite ring—a flawless, brilliant-cut diamond flanked by two small sapphire stones, glowing under the afternoon sun like the ocean below.
"Clara Whitmore," Ethan said, his voice raw with love and quiet intensity. "Six months ago, you asked me for fifty dollars to buy formula. Instead, you gave me a reason to live, a family to protect, and a heart that actually beats. You and Lily are my home."
Tears of pure joy welled in Clara’s eyes, spilling down her cheeks as she looked at the man who had turned her darkest night into an endless dawn.
"I love you, Ethan," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "More than words could ever say."
"Will you marry me, Clara?" Ethan asked, his eyes searching hers. "Will you let me spend the rest of my life loving you and Lily?"
"Yes!" Clara cried, leaning down to throw her arms around his neck. "Yes, absolute yes!"
Ethan slipped the ring onto her finger, pulled her close, and kissed her deeply—a kiss filled with passion, relief, and the promise of a lifetime together.
Across the lawn, little Lily came toddling over on her chubby legs, clutching her soft toy, looking up at them with big, curious brown eyes.
"Daddy! Mommy!" Lily babbled, holding up her arms.
Ethan’s heart swelled to bursting. He reached down with one broad arm and lifted Lily effortlessly into the air, holding both Clara and Lily tightly against his chest as they stood together on the sunlit porch overlooking the sea.
From a flickering light bulb in a freezing Bronx apartment to a life filled with endless love, light, and security, Clara looked up at the sky, her heart brimming with immense gratitude for the miraculous twist of fate that changed their lives forever.
