Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Loyalty

Ten years later.
The gardens of the Moretti estate were in full bloom, a brilliant explosion of roses and hydrangeas under the warm summer sun.
At the center of the stone courtyard, an eighteen-year-old young woman in a crisp academic blazer stood laughing as she helped a lively ten-year-old boy practice his archery stance. The boy—tall, dark-haired, with a sharp, intelligent gaze that mirrored his father’s—pulled back the bowstring and released an arrow that struck the outer edge of the bullseye.
"Not bad, Leo," Sophia Bellini said, lowering her own bow with a confident grin. "But your stance is still too wide. Your father will lecture you for an hour if he sees you standing like that."
"I heard that," a deep, calm voice echoed from the shaded veranda.
Rocco Moretti, now fifty-eight, walked out onto the stone patio. His hair was touched with silver at the temples, and the harsh lines of suspicion that had once defined his face had softened into the quiet dignity of a patriarch who had finally found peace.
Leo lowered his bow immediately, straightening his posture with a respectful nod. "Father."
Rocco walked over, resting a heavy, warm hand on his son's shoulder before turning to Sophia. She had grown from a barefoot, rain-soaked little girl into a brilliant, poised young woman currently preparing to enter the top law university in the country—fully supported and protected by the empire she had unknowingly saved a decade ago.
"You're late for your briefing with Marco," Sophia teased lightly, crossing her arms.
"Marco can wait," Rocco smiled, a rare, genuine expression that only his children ever saw. He looked out across the sprawling estate, watching the fountains sparkle in the afternoon light.
The systems he had built around himself had changed. He no longer trusted cold machinery over people; he had learned that true power did not come from fear, locks, or walls, but from loyalty, courage, and truth found in the most unexpected places.

"Come inside," Rocco said gently, gesturing toward the open doors of the mansion. "Dinner is ready, and Elena made your favorite pastry."
Sophia smiled, linking her arm playfully through Rocco's as they walked toward the house together, with young Leo running ahead to open the grand oak doors. The house was no longer a silent fortress of stone and shadows. It was a home, bright and unbroken, standing strong against the passage of time.
