Chapter 5 - The Saboteur's Trust

Logan spent the next forty-eight hours digging into the financial architecture of Whitmore Global.

What he found was a trail of blood money hidden behind corporate philanthropy.

In her father’s will, a crucial clause had been buried deep in the trust documents: If Vanessa Whitmore failed to produce a healthy, direct heir capable of assuming executive leadership of Whitmore Global by age forty, controlling voting power of the $40 billion empire would revert to the Board of Directors—headed by Richard Whitmore.

“They didn’t want to kill her,” Logan explained to Vanessa in her private office at Whitmore Tower. “If Layla died, you might have had another child. But if Layla remained permanently disabled, you would spend all your energy, time, and emotional strength caring for her, rendering her incapable of ever taking over the company.”

Vanessa’s face turned pale with fury. “They stole six years of my daughter’s life... for corporate stock?”

“It gets worse,” Logan pointed to his tablet screen. “I tracked the signal logs from the micro-device in Layla’s ear. It wasn’t just a passive dampener. It was transmitting real-time audio from inside your home back to an encrypted server right here in this building.”

Vanessa gasped. Every private conversation, every emotional breakdown, every strategic corporate plan she had uttered near her daughter for six years had been recorded by the conspirators.

Before Vanessa could respond, the office door swung open.

Richard Whitmore stepped inside, flanked by Dr. Julian Vance. Richard wore an expensive tailored suit and a slick, sympathetic smile.

“Vanessa, darling,” Richard said smoothly. “We heard the miraculous news about Layla’s surgery! It’s astonishing! But we are deeply concerned about this... rough-looking security guard you’ve brought onto the executive floor.”
