Chapter 7 - Unraveling the Web

“They tracked us,” Logan said calmly, standing up instantly. “Vanessa, get the kids into the subterranean panic room now.”

Within minutes, the heavy steel door of the safehouse basement clicked shut, securing Vanessa, Layla, and Ethan inside.

Outside, rain poured over the coastal cliff. Three black sedans burst through the security gate. Six armed mercenaries dispatched by Richard Whitmore moved toward the house, intent on erasing the evidence—and the people holding it.

They didn’t realize they were entering the domain of a former Northstar structural rescue operative.

Logan used the darkness and the terrain to his absolute advantage. He cut the power grid, plunging the property into pitch blackness. Using low-frequency acoustic alerts he rigged from the house’s sound system, he disoriented the mercenaries, triggering localized sonic bursts that mimicked the very technology used against Layla.

One by one, Logan neutralized the intruders in the shadow-drenched hallways, using non-lethal tactical takedowns until only the team lead remained.

By 2:00 AM, the police sirens echoed in the distance.

When the local authorities and federal agents arrived—summoned directly by Vanessa’s emergency line—they found six mercenaries zip-tied on the front lawn alongside a mountain of encrypted radio equipment.

Among the seized devices was a master control unit stamped with Dr. Julian Vance’s personal biometric signature.
