Chapter 10 - The Table at Lumière

It was a chilly Thursday evening in November.

Outside the grand glass facade of Lumière, the city streets were buzzing with holiday traffic, warm yellow lights reflecting off the wet pavement.

Inside the restaurant, the atmosphere was as luxurious and refined as it had always been. The grand chandeliers cast a warm glow over white-linen tables, sparkling crystal, and the soft murmur of high-society patrons.

Head waiter Maurice stood near the entrance, holding his leather reservation ledger.

Suddenly, the glass doors swung open.

Four people walked across the floor toward the prime table in the back—Table 14.

They didn't walk with the cold, terrifying isolation that had defined the past eleven years. They walked together, laughing softly at a joke Teo had just made, their presence commanding the room not through threat of violence, but through a breathtaking, effortless unity.

Massimo Conti walked in first, wearing an immaculate black suit. On his arm was Renata Cruz, stunning in an emerald-green silk dress, her smile radiant under the chandeliers.

Behind them came Rafael, looking tall and confident, chatting amiably with Teo, who was adjusting his tie as they approached the table.

Maurice immediately stepped forward, bowing deeply with genuine, warm respect. "Good evening, Don Conti. Mrs. Cruz. Gentlemen. Your table is prepared."

"Thank you, Maurice," Massimo said warmly, pulling out a crisp hundred-dollar bill and placing it smoothly into Maurice’s breast pocket—not as a display of dominance, but as a genuine token of appreciation. "Everything looks wonderful tonight."

The four of them took their seats around the large round table.

The waiters refilled their glasses with vintage red wine and sparkling water. Silver platters of exquisite food were served, the aromas of rich sauces and fresh herbs filling the air.

Teo raised his glass of wine, looking around the table at his mother, his brother, and his father.

"A toast," Teo said, his dark eyes shining with happiness. "To family. To surviving the storm, and finding the sun."

"To family," Rafael echoed, clinking his glass against Teo’s.

Renata smiled, her eyes brimming with happy tears as she touched her glass to Massimo’s. "To family."

Massimo looked around the table. He looked at Renata’s healthy, glowing face. He looked at Rafael’s fierce, protective smile. He looked at Teo’s bright, brilliant eyes.

The cold tyrant who had sat alone at this very table for eleven years—feared by an entire city, completely dead inside—was gone. In his place sat a man who had finally found his way home.

Massimo raised his glass, a deep, genuine smile lighting up his face.

"To my sons," Massimo said softly, his voice thick with profound love and pride. "The best thing I ever did in my life."

The glasses clinked together in a soft, musical ring under the crystal chandeliers of Lumière, signaling not the end of a dark empire, but the beautiful, unshakeable beginning of a family reborn.
