Chapter 10 - Crown of Snow and Fire

Six months later, the winter snow had melted away, giving way to the brilliant, vibrant warmth of an early summer in New York.

High above the bustling streets, on the private rooftop terrace of the Obsidian Manor, the wind carried the faint scent of blooming jasmine and the distant hum of the harbor.

Mara stood by the glass balustrade, wearing a simple, elegant silk dress, watching a little girl with a brand-new purple bicycle chase a golden retriever across the expansive lawn below.

Footsteps approached softly behind her. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest.

“She’s going to crash that bike into the fountain by three o’clock,” Dante murmured into her hair, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple.

“She won't crash,” Mara replied with a soft smile, leaning back against him. “She’s a Blackwood now. She knows how to navigate rough terrain.”

Dante chuckled, turning her gently in his arms so she could look up into his face. The cold, ruthless syndicate king was entirely gone, replaced by a man who had found his anchor in the middle of a storm.

“The federal grand jury wrapped up the indictments this morning,” Dante said softly. “Vance and his co-conspirators will spend the rest of their natural lives behind bars. The Meadowbrook project is being rebuilt from the ground up, with a permanent memorial dedicated to Elias.”

Mara reached up, her fingers tracing the sharp line of Dante’s jaw. A profound sense of peace settled deep within her chest—not the fragile, fearful peace of her past life, but something forged in fire and absolute truth.

“Elias would have liked that,” Mara whispered. “He always wanted to build things that lasted.”

Dante took her hand, interlacing his fingers with hers, and pressed a deep, tender kiss to her knuckles.

“We built something that will outlast us all,” Dante said, looking down at her with eyes full of unwavering devotion.

Down on the lawn, Emma laughed as the golden retriever barked happily beside her, the bright sunlight washing over the estate in a golden embrace. The dark days in the freezing alley were nothing more than a distant memory—a testament to a little girl who drove through a snowstorm, and the defiant widow who claimed a king before the whole world.
