Chapter 10 - The Harmony of Home

One year later.

The summer sun beamed down brightly over the rolling green hills of Lake Como, Italy. The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of blooming jasmine, salt water, and sparkling champagne.

Sitting on a breathtaking cliffside terrace overlooking the deep blue waters was a grand white pavilion adorned with thousands of white roses.

It was the wedding of Marco De Luca and Elena Vance.

The gathering was unlike any event the underworld had ever witnessed. There were no armed guards in dark corners, no tense negotiations, no whispers of violence. Marco had spent the last twelve months systematically transitioning his vast empire into legitimate global shipping, real estate, and medical tech enterprises—building a clean, bulletproof legacy for his children.

Standing at the altar in a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo, Marco looked happier and more magnificent than he ever had in his life. The lines of stress and ancient grief had vanished from his face, replaced by an enduring, tranquil peace.

Standing beside him as his best men were Matteo and Luca, dressed in sharp matching tuxedos. They carried the wedding rings in a velvet box, standing with absolute poise and confidence. They needed no canes, no guides. They navigated the stone terrace with effortless grace, clicking their tongues softly as they listened to the gentle breeze bouncing off the lake waters.

The string quartet began to play a soft, sweeping rendition of Canon in D.

The crowd stood up.

At the end of the aisle stood Elena. She was breathtaking. Her white silk dress flowed like water around her, embellished with delicate lace and a long veil that caught the light breeze. In her hands, she held a bouquet of white lilies and olive branches.

As she walked down the aisle, her hazel eyes locked onto Marco.

Marco’s breath caught in his throat, tears glistening in his dark eyes as he watched the woman who had saved his life walk toward him.

When she reached the altar, Marco took her hands in his. His fingers were steady, warm, and filled with gentle devotion.

“You take my breath away,” Marco whispered softly.

“You restored mine,” Elena smiled back.

The priest delivered a beautiful service, but when it came time for the vows, Marco turned to Elena, taking her hands in his.

“Elena,” Marco said, his deep voice echoing across the quiet lake. “Four years ago, I was a dead man living in a fortress of dark shadows. I believed that love was something I had lost forever, and that my dark life had cursed my sons to live in permanent night. Then you walked into my world. You didn't see broken boys—you saw marvels. You didn't see a monster—you saw a father who needed saving.”

He brought her hands to his lips, kissing her knuckles gently. “You taught my sons to see through sound... but you taught me to see through love. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal protection for as long as I draw breath.”

Tears of pure happiness streamed down Elena’s cheeks. She reached up, gently touching his cheek.

“Marco,” Elena said, her voice rich with emotion. “I used to think my life’s purpose was found in books, labs, and scientific papers. But the moment I knelt beside your sons and heard their brilliant hearts, I knew where I belonged. You gave me a home when I had nothing. You gave me two beautiful sons to love. And you showed me that true strength isn't found in fear, but in family.”

“By the power vested in me,” the priest smiled warmly, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Marco didn't wait a second longer. He wrapped his strong arms around Elena’s waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and kissed her with a deep, passionate, unending devotion that drew wild cheers and applause from the entire crowd.

Matteo and Luca cheered loudly, clapping their hands in rhythm.

“Dad! Elena! Group hug!” Luca shouted.

Marco and Elena broke their kiss, laughing joyfully as they leaned down and swept both boys into their arms.

Later that evening, as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant hues of violet, orange, and gold, Elena sat on the edge of the stone terrace with her feet dangling over the water.

Marco stepped up behind her, holding two glasses of sparkling cider. He sat down beside her, handing her a glass, and pulled her close against his side.

A few yards away on the soft grass, Matteo and Luca were playing with a small golden retriever puppy—a gift from Marco. The boys were laughing hysterically as the puppy barked, using their echolocation to playfully trick the dog by clicking in different directions.

“Look at them,” Elena whispered, leaning her head on Marco’s shoulder. “They’re so happy.”

“They are free,” Marco corrected gently, placing a soft kiss on top of her head. “We are all free.”

Elena looked out over the glowing waters of Lake Como, then up at her husband, and finally at her two brilliant sons whose laughter filled the warm night air.
