Chapter 6 - Financial Warfare and Uncovering the Truth

With the business frozen and the criminal case moving toward a grand jury indictment, Sarah Jenkins and her legal team began digging deeper into the Holloway family finances. What they uncovered was a web of fraud, forgery, and systematic financial abuse that extended far beyond my stolen inheritance.
Lucas and I sat in Sarah's conference room as she laid out a series of financial spreadsheets across the table.
"It’s worse than we thought," Sarah said, clicking a laser pointer onto a projection screen. "Your parents didn't just take your four hundred thousand dollars. Over the past five years, they took out multiple high-interest commercial loans using forged signatures on the property deeds of the guest apartment building—which was legally deeded directly to you by your grandmother in 2018."
I stared at the screen in disbelief. "They forged my signature?"
"Multiple times," Sarah nodded. "They used your name as collateral to secure loans for Holloway Home & Tool when their credit tanked. That means not only are they facing felony child abuse and embezzlement charges, but they are also looking at federal bank fraud and forgery charges."
"Can they lose the family home as well?" Lucas asked, leaning forward.
"Everything," Sarah confirmed. "Their house, their vehicles, their personal bank accounts, and any remaining inventory. The courts will liquidate all assets to satisfy the creditors and pay restitution to you and Maisie."
Later that evening, as I tucked Maisie into her new, safe crib in our home, I watched her peaceful breathing. The dark shadows under her eyes had faded, replaced by the rosy glow of a happy, healthy two-year-old. She clutched her favorite stuffed rabbit—the one her grandmother Holloway had tried to throw away—against her chest.
"You're safe now, baby," I whispered, kissing her forehead. "No one will ever hurt you again."
As I walked back down the hallway, Lucas was waiting for me with a glass of wine and a warm smile.

"The wedding planner called today," Lucas said softly, wrapping his arms around my waist. "She wanted to know if we had a date set for the autumn."
I rested my head against his chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart. "Let's do it in October," I murmured. "When the leaves turn orange and gold. Just us, Maisie, and the people who actually love us."
