Chapter 3 - The Fairview Ghost

Back in the apartment, the weight of the discoveries began to take its toll. Callie spent the night cross-referencing the ledger with public property records. She realized with chilling clarity that Joel and Dakota weren't just greedy—they were reckless.

She visited the Fairview neighborhood, walking past her grandmother’s old house. It was boarded up, a "For Sale" sign rotting in the overgrown grass. But there were no construction crews. No renovations.

Callie climbed the back fence, slipping into the yard. She found a window with a broken latch and pulled herself inside. The house was a time capsule of neglect, but as she stepped into the study, she found a hidden panel behind a bookshelf. Inside, she discovered something Joel had clearly missed: a stack of medical reports from a private clinic in the city.

The reports were dated months apart. They clearly stated that Geneva’s cognitive decline was induced by a specific pharmaceutical combination—the exact same medication she had seen sitting on the kitchen counter at Joel’s house.

"They were poisoning her," Callie breathed, her hand trembling as she held the papers.

She realized then that this wasn't just a family dispute over property. This was a criminal operation. She needed allies, but in this neighborhood, loyalty was a currency she couldn't afford. She had to become the ghost that haunted them, the force that would undo the web they had spun around her grandmother’s life.
