Chapter 10 - The Unlocked Future

A year later, the Fairview house was a beacon of light in the neighborhood. The "For Sale" sign was long gone, replaced by a brass plaque at the gate: The Geneva Foundation – Advocacy and Justice for the Elderly.
The morning was crisp, and the garden was in full bloom. Callie sat at the large oak desk that had once belonged to her grandfather, finalizing the paperwork for their next pro-bono case. A young woman was waiting in the lobby, someone whose own grandmother had been mistreated by a nursing home, looking for the kind of help that Callie and Geneva were now uniquely equipped to provide.
Geneva walked into the room, looking radiant. The "Alzheimer’s" diagnosis had been officially retracted by a team of independent specialists—a miraculous recovery in the eyes of the public, but a simple act of justice for those who knew the truth.
“The mailbox is full again,” Geneva remarked with a playful glint in her eye. “It seems justice is in high demand, Callie.”

Callie smiled, standing up to embrace her grandmother. They had moved past the trauma, the betrayal, and the cold, dark days of that initial abandonment. Joel and Dakota were serving their time, fading into the background of a life they had tried to steal, while Callie and Geneva had built something entirely their own.
As they walked out to the garden to meet their new client, Callie looked back at the house—the structure that had once been a prison and was now a sanctuary. They weren't just fixing a legacy; they were rewriting it. The "problem" they had been told to handle had become the catalyst for their greatest success, and as the sun rose over Fairview, they knew their work was only just beginning.
