Chapter 10 - A New Dawn and Happily Ever After

On a breathtaking Saturday afternoon exactly two years after the night I sat trembling on my marital bathroom floor, I stood on the expansive private balcony of my Austin loft, holding a cup of freshly brewed herbal tea.
The Texas breeze was cool and sweet, carrying the faint scent of wildflowers from the lake below.
My phone buzzed gently on the glass patio table. I glanced down at the screen. It was a text message from Julian: “Landing at Austin-Bergstrom in twenty minutes. Save me some tacos and tell me why I’m your favorite brother again.”
I laughed softly, typing back a quick reply: “Because you didn't let me stay buried. See you in a few.”
I walked back inside the sunlit loft, my footsteps echoing softly against the polished concrete floors. I paused in front of the full-length mirror in my dressing room.
I looked at the reflection looking back at me. There was no trace of the terrified, submissive wife who had cowered on cold marble tiles. In her place stood a woman with bright, confident eyes, a strong, proud posture, and a spirit forged in the fire of absolute survival.
