Chapter 9 - The Climax

The hospital lobby was quiet, but it felt like a battlefield. Rachel stepped out of the elevator, the incriminating documents and the original bracelet tucked securely in a sealed evidence bag.
She was met by Daniel Mercer and two hospital security guards. Daniel looked unhinged.

"It’s over, Daniel," Rachel said. "The lawyer is on his way, and the police have the server logs from the insurance billing department. You didn't just mess with a clock; you messed with federal insurance fraud. That’s a prison sentence, not a payday."
Dr. Cole appeared behind him, his face pale. "Daniel, she's lying. She has nothing."
"I have everything," Rachel said, raising her phone to show a livestream of the hospital’s board of directors, who were now alerted to the massive liability they were about to inherit.
At that moment, the double doors of the lobby swung open. Not the police, but Claire, leaning on a walker, holding baby Noah. She looked fragile but resolute.

"Stop," Claire said. Her voice was weak but carried the authority of a mother who had reclaimed her life. "I heard the bell, Daniel. And I am the one who will testify."
The security guards hesitated, sensing the shift in power. Daniel’s face crumbled, the arrogance vanishing as he looked at his wife and the son he had tried to weaponize for money.
