Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the Snow

By the time the sirens wailed their frantic red song outside Aurelia’s front entrance, media vans were already swarming the curb. Rumors move faster than light in Manhattan, and the news that billionaire Alexander Sterling’s glamorous girlfriend had collapsed under mysterious circumstances during their anniversary dinner was too explosive for the city to ignore.

Inside the restaurant, amid the flashing lights of paramedics loading Celeste onto a stretcher, Alexander stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, his jaw clenched.

He didn't care about the cameras. He didn't care about the tabloids. His mind was fixed entirely on one thing: the girl.

He turned to Marcus Bell, his head of security, who had materialized by his side within minutes of the chaos.

“Find her,” Alexander ordered, his voice cold and absolute.

“Mr. Sterling, the security guards lost her in the service alley behind Forty-Fourth Street,” Marcus replied, his professional composure tight. “It’s a maze of delivery docks and subway grates. With the blizzard coming down this hard, tracks vanish in seconds.”

“I don't care about the snow,” Alexander snapped, turning to face him. “She walked into a five-star restaurant in an oversized blue hoodie, risked her life to warn me, and vanished into the freezing dark. She saved my life, Marcus. I want every security camera from Times Square to the East River pulled. Check subway turnstiles, check warming shelters, check every alleyway within a ten-block radius. Find her.”

“Understood, sir. I’m on it.”

Alexander watched Marcus disappear into the crowd of police officers and frantic restaurant staff. He looked down at his own hands, realizing they were barely trembling. The danger had passed, but the debt remained. A multi-billionaire empire had been saved not by bodyguards, sophisticated algorithms, or high-priced lawyers, but by a homeless child who refused to look away.
