Chapter 10 - The New Dawn
The sun rose over the hills of Greenwich, Connecticut, casting a golden light across a sprawling, magnificent stone estate.
It was not the cold, formal Sterling Manor of the past. The dark drapes had been torn down and replaced with warm silk curtains. The lawns were filled with flower beds, play sets, and bright red rose bushes.
On the manicured grass of the rear garden, four-year-old Sophia was running happily in a pale pink summer dress, laughing as she chased a playful golden retriever puppy across the lawn.
“Daddy, look!” Sophia cheered, doing a little dance on the grass. “Barnaby learned how to sit!”
On the marble terrace overlooking the lawn, Alexander stood with his arms wrapped around Lauren from behind.
Lauren leaned back against his chest, her heart beating with a strong, healthy, rhythmic pulse that Alexander could feel beneath his hands. She was three months pregnant with their second child—a boy the doctors declared perfectly healthy.
“She’s so happy, Alex,” Lauren murmured, watching Sophia laugh as the puppy licked her nose.
“We all are,” Alexander whispered, kissing her neck softly.
He looked down at the gold band on his finger, then reached out to touch the heavy leather folder resting on the terrace table.
It was the incorporation papers for the Sophia & Lauren Sterling Foundation—a two-hundred-million-dollar charitable trust that Alexander had created using Victoria’s seized assets. The foundation was dedicated to providing free cardiac care, housing, and legal aid to impoverished mothers and children across the country.
“No mother will ever have to hide in the dark again,” Lauren said, turning in his arms to look into his eyes.
“And no child will ever have to dig through garbage for food,” Alexander added softly.

He pulled her into his arms, dipping his head to press his lips against hers in a long, deep, passionate kiss filled with forgiveness, healing, and unbreakable love.
Down on the grass, little Sophia looked up, saw her mother and father hugging in the warm sunshine, and let out a bright, joyful laugh that echoed across the estate—a sound that signaled the dark past was gone forever, and a bright new dawn had finally arrived.
