Chapter 10 - The Horizon

Six months later, the morning sun bathed the kitchen in a warm, honey-colored light. The smell of fresh coffee and cinnamon bread filled the house.

Gianna sat at the table, her face fully healed, a soft smile gracing her lips. She wasn't the broken woman from the hospital bed anymore; she was a survivor, rebuilding her life with a resilience that seemed to radiate from her very bones.

Hazel was at the counter, her small hands dusted in flour as she helped her grandmother knead dough. The gap-toothed smile was back, and the trauma that had haunted her sleep was slowly being replaced by the mundane, beautiful rhythm of safety.

The legal nightmare was behind them. The house they lived in now was bright, open, and filled with sunlight. Rosemary stood by the window, watching the two of them. She had kept her promise.

She turned as Gianna walked over, wrapping her arms around her mother’s waist—the same gesture Hazel used to make.

"Thank you, Mom," Gianna whispered.

"We did this together," Rosemary replied, pulling her into a tight embrace.

Outside, the world continued to spin, but here, the storm had passed. The "blue box" was gone, burned and forgotten in the ashes of the past. There were no more secrets, no more forged signatures, and no more fear. They had walked through the fire and emerged, not just as a family, but as a legacy of strength. The horizon ahead was clear, and for the first time in eight years, the future was theirs to define.
