Chapter 10 - Rebirth

Three months later, the sun was shining brightly over the rolling green hills of the Vance estate.

I sat in a comfortable rocking chair on the wrap-around veranda, holding my newborn son, Leo, wrapped in a soft blue blanket. Nearby, Lily was giggling as she chased a butterfly across the manicured lawn, guarded closely by Arthur, who looked happier than I had ever seen him.

Brandon had taken a plea deal—eight years in state prison with no parole eligibility for five, alongside full restitution for the money he had stolen. Harrison Croft’s company was facing a federal indictment for corporate espionage, ruining his reputation overnight.

My jaw had fully healed, my smile was restored, but more importantly, the invisible scars inside me had finally begun to mend.

Arthur walked over, carrying two glasses of lemonade, and handed one to me. He looked down at his sleeping grandson and smiled warmly.

"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" he asked softly.

I looked out across the peaceful estate, listening to my daughter's laughter echoing in the summer air, feeling the warmth of my baby sleeping against my chest.

"I feel free, Dad," I said, offering him a genuine, radiant smile. "For the first time in my life, I'm completely free."
