Chapter 8 - The Reckoning

The aftermath of the attack on the penthouse was swift and absolute.
Within an hour, Lev and a clean-up crew had removed every trace of the intruding mercenaries. The security breach had been traced back to a compromised elevator maintenance company hired by Victor Moretti.
By 3:00 AM, the Volkov empire struck back with the fury of a unleashed hurricane.
Damon didn't wait for Moretti to reorganize. Accompanied by fifty of his most lethal men, Damon personally raided the Moretti compound in Long Island.
The battle was short, brutal, and decisive. By sunrise, the Moretti syndicate was dismantled, its leadership captured, and Victor Moretti himself was brought to his knees in his own grand ballroom, staring up at the man he had dared to cross.
"You should have stayed buried, Volkov," Moretti spat, blood dripping from his broken nose as Damon stood over him. "You think having a wife and kids makes you strong? It makes you weak! It gives us a target!"
Damon looked down at the man who had terrorized the city for two decades. His expression was utterly calm—the terrifying calm of an executioner.
"You misunderstood, Victor," Damon said smoothly, pulling a sleek black handgun from his coat holster. "My family didn't make me weak. They gave me a reason to finish this once and for all."
A single gunshot echoed through the grand ballroom, cutting off Moretti’s reign forever.
By noon that same day, news swept through the underground and financial sectors of Manhattan like a tidal wave: The Moretti family is no more. Damon Volkov holds absolute, uncontested rule over the entire Eastern Seaboard.
Furthermore, a public announcement was made from the Volkov corporate headquarters. A photograph was released to every major media outlet and syndicate boss in the country.

It showed Damon Volkov standing outside his grand estate, flanked by his beautiful wife, Camila Reyes Volkov, and their twin five-year-old heirs, Mateo and Luz.
The message was clear, silent, and undisputed: The Volkov family is whole. Touch them, and perish.
