Chapter 7 - The Master of Westchester

Six months later.
The annual spring summit of the Five Families was held at the historic Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
In the grand ballroom, forty of the most powerful crime bosses, capos, and advisors in the northeastern United States gathered around a massive oak table to discuss territory lines, shipping rights, and peace treaties.
At the head of the table sat Ricardo Bruno.
He wore a dark navy double-breasted suit, his hair neatly styled, his demeanor commanding absolute, undisputed reverence from every man in the room. Beside him stood Luca, carrying the official ledgers of the newly unified territories.
A veteran Don from New Jersey raised his glass toward Ricardo. "To Bruno. The man who swept the harbor clean in a single night without losing a single shipment."
The men around the table raised their glasses, murmuring in agreement.
"You showed no mercy to the Vitalis, Rick," another boss noted, leaning forward. "Word on the street is you dismantled their entire network in less than forty-eight hours. What was your secret weapon?"
Ricardo took a slow sip of his mineral water. He didn't smile.
"My secret weapon," Ricardo said smoothly, "was paying attention to what others ignore."
He stood up from his chair, buttoning his jacket. "The harbor lines remain as agreed. The peace holds as long as my borders are respected. If anyone crosses them... they can ask Lorenzo Vitali how that ended."
Without waiting for a response, Ricardo walked out of the ballroom, leaving the most dangerous men in the city sitting in respectful silence.
As he walked through the grand lobby of the hotel toward his waiting Maybach, Luca caught up to him.
"The board is thrilled, Rick," Luca smiled. "Our revenue is up forty percent this quarter. You have absolute control of the state."
"I don't care about the revenue, Luca," Ricardo said as the doorman held open the heavy glass doors. "Is the car ready?"
"Waiting outside, Boss."
Ricardo stepped out into the bright afternoon sun.
Sitting in the leather rear seat of his custom Maybach, looking out the window at the bustling New York streets, was Sesto. She was wearing a pretty yellow sundress, a white bow in her hair, holding a small toy dog in her hands.
Beside her, taking up half the leather bench, sat Sabia, wearing a sleek black leather collar with a polished silver tag.
When Sesto saw Ricardo approach, she pressed her face against the window, waving her tiny hand frantically. "Dadda! Dadda!"
Ricardo’s cold, stern executive face instantly melted into a warm, joyful grin.
He opened the rear door and climbed inside, pulling his daughter onto his lap while Sabia leaned over to lick his knuckles.
"Did you have a good day in the city, Piccolina?" Ricardo asked, kissing her forehead.
"We went to the park!" Sesto cheered happily, her speech now completely fluent and bright. "Sabia saw a squirrel! He didn't chase it because he's a good boy!"

"He's the best boy," Ricardo agreed, stroking the dog's soft ears.
"Home now, Lionel," Ricardo instructed the driver. "We have a garden to build."
