Chapter 4 - The Night That Changed Everything

The adrenaline of the near-assassination hung heavy in the air, charging the room with an explosive, undeniable tension. The storm raged outside, cutting them off completely from the rest of the world.

Dominic didn't let go of her wrist. Instead, he pulled her gently forward until she was kneeling between his knees on the edge of the mattress.

“Harper,” he breathed, his voice rough with a restraint that had been fraying for months. “Look at me and tell me you don't feel this.”

Harper couldn't lie. The months of isolation, the shared danger, the midnight glances, and the fierce protection he radiated had dismantled every defense she possessed. She looked into his dark, fathomless eyes and shook her head slowly.

“I do feel it,” she whispered.

That was all the permission Dominic needed. His hands cupped her face, his thumbs tracing her cheekbones before his lips met hers. The kiss started with a desperate, pent-up hunger, quickly escalating into a wildfire that consumed every remaining rule, boundary, and contract they had ever signed.

The cold, calculated transaction vanished, replaced by heat, breath, and a deep, consuming need. When Dominic pulled her down against the crimson sheets, the world outside—Carmine, the commission, the danger, the debts—ceased to exist.

In the shelter of the snow-trapped room, rules were broken, barriers were smashed, and two souls collided in the dark, sealing a fate neither of them had anticipated.
