Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

“I’m fine,” Harper breathed, trembling. “Dominic, they knew we were here. Carmine knows the penthouse isn't as safe as you thought.”
Dominic pulled her fiercely against his chest, burying his face in her hair. “This ends today. I’m ending Carmine. I’m burning his entire syndicate to the ground.”
Harper pushed back gently, looking up into his tortured eyes. She knew she couldn't keep it a secret anymore. If she stayed silent, the danger would multiply exponentially.
“Dominic... there’s something else,” she said, her voice shaking.
He frowned, cupping her face. “What is it, mia cara? Are you injured?”
“No,” she whispered, taking his large hand and placing it flat against her lower stomach. “You wanted an heir to secure your dynasty, Dominic. The commission wanted proof of permanence.”
Dominic stared at her, uncomprehending at first. Then, as the words registered, the color drained entirely from his face. His hand burned against her skin.
“Harper... are you saying—”
“I’m pregnant,” she said softly, a tear slipping down her cheek. “We’re having a baby.”
The ruthless mafia boss, a man who had stared down executioners and rival syndicates without flinching, looked as though he had been struck by lightning. His dark eyes widened, filling with an overwhelming wave of awe, fierce protection, and raw, unfiltered love.

He dropped to his knees in front of her, pressing his forehead gently against her stomach. For a long, silent moment, he didn't move. When he finally looked back up at her, tears shimmered in his eyes.
“You carry my heart, Harper,” he whispered fiercely. “And now you carry my child. No one—not Carmine, not the commission, not hell itself—will ever lay a finger on either of you.”
