Chapter 3 - The Internal Investigation

By dawn, the hospital was a scene of chaos. Police swarmed the corridors, but the hospital’s internal legal team, led by the ruthless Katherine Vane, was already spinning a narrative: Mark had suffered a mental breakdown, and his accusations against the staff were the paranoid ramblings of a man under extreme stress.

Dr. Sterling was pulled into a private room. Vane sat across from him, her posture rigid. "Dr. Sterling, we have reviewed the logs. You were exhausted. You misidentified the substance on the tray. It was nothing more than an electrolyte solution."

"It was poison, Katherine," Sterling retorted, his voice raspy. "And the little girl saw him. Lily isn't hallucinating."

"The child is traumatized," Vane said, sliding a folder across the desk. "She has been placed in the custody of her aunt. As for you, you are suspended pending a psychiatric evaluation."

Sterling realized he was being silenced. He left the office, heading straight for the basement storage lockers, the only place he knew where Aris kept his private, non-digital logs. He found the door pried open. Inside, rows of filing cabinets had been emptied. However, tucked into a ventilation duct, he found a single, small leather notebook.

He flipped it open. It wasn't just about overdoses. It was a ledger of illegal clinical trials performed on unsuspecting patients, funded by the very pharmaceutical companies that supplied the hospital. The "blood samples" weren't just being tested; they were being harvested for proprietary data. And the next set of test subjects was already scheduled for the morning surgery list.
