Chapter 7 - Facing the Ghost

Harrison let out a dry, manic laugh. "You think you’ve won? Look at the screen!"

Trevor turned his head toward the central monitor. The progress bar reached 98% Complete.

SYSTEM ALERT: UNREVOCABLE CAPITAL TRANSFER - $3,000,000,000

RECIPIENT: AEGIS GLOBAL HOLDINGS (CAYMAN)

"It's an automated, self-executing smart contract!" Harrison cackled. "Once it hits one hundred percent, the funds clear, the accounts liquidate, and the paper trail implicates you, Trevor! The DOJ will see your digital signature authorizing the buyout of an illegal contractor!"

"It won't hit one hundred," Trevor said calmly.

"And how do you plan to stop it?!" Harrison sneered. "The server is encrypted with a twenty-four-character biometric key!"

Trevor pulled a sleek silver flash drive from his pocket—the exact drive Keisha had retrieved from Brianna’s hidden safe deposit box earlier that week—and slammed it into the central terminal.

"Brianna wasn't just gathering evidence, Harrison," Trevor revealed, his voice filled with overwhelming pride for his late wife. "She was a senior software architect before we met. She built a backdoor fail-safe into Callahan Enterprises' financial core the day we got married. She called it the Robin Protocol."

Trevor hit the ENTER key.

The screen flashed bright red. The progress bar froze at 99%.

A sharp, mechanical voice echoed through the boardroom speakers:

BIOMETRIC FAIL-SAFE ACTIVATED.

AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED: BRIANNA CALLAHAN PRIMARY VOICE RECOGNITION.

Harrison stared at the screen in pure horror. "No... no, she’s dead! She can't authorize it!"

Trevor tapped his smartphone screen, playing an audio file Brianna had recorded for him on their last anniversary—a simple, beautiful voice memo she had saved on his cloud drive.

"I love you, Trevor. Forever and always."

The terminal analyzed the audio wave patterns. The red screen instantly turned green.

PRIMARY VOICE CONFIRMED.

TRANSACTION CANCELED.

OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS FROZEN.

FULL SYSTEM AUDIT TRANSMITTED TO DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.

Harrison collapsed into his leather desk chair, his head in his hands, completely broken.

Outside the glass windows, the wail of dozens of federal law enforcement sirens echoed from the streets below. Red and blue lights flashed across the rainy glass, illuminating the room in vivid color.

Agent Croft of the FBI, accompanied by a dozen heavily armed federal officers, burst through the boardroom doors, weapons drawn.

"Harrison Vance! You are under arrest for corporate espionage, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit murder, and high treason!" Croft commanded.

As the agents tackled Harrison to the floor and slapped heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists, Agent Croft walked over to Keisha, saluting her with immense respect.

"Incredible work, Agent Reyes," Croft said. "The DOJ has already seized Aegis Global’s primary servers in Virginia. It’s over."

Keisha let out a long, shuddering breath, lowering her weapon. She looked at Trevor, who was standing beside the window, staring down at the flashing lights of the city.

The nightmare that had begun six months ago on a dark highway was finally, completely finished.
