Chapter 10 - The New Foundation

Six months later, the Whitaker Tower looked different. It was no longer a symbol of cold, singular power.
The board had been purged, and Julian had stepped down as CEO to become a consultant, choosing a life that allowed for mornings with his daughter and evenings with his wife. He had sold the estate and moved them to a house by the coast—a home filled with light, where the doors actually unlocked and the air didn't smell of secrets.
The divorce hearing was a distant, hazy memory. In its place was a new contract—not a legal one, but a silent, daily agreement between two people who had survived the fire.
One Sunday morning, Elena walked into the kitchen to find Julian playing on the floor with Rose. The little girl laughed, a sound so bright it seemed to erase every shadow that had ever touched these halls. Julian looked up, his expression softened by a peace he had never dreamed possible.
He stood and walked over to Elena, pulling her into a quiet, steady embrace. "I’ve been thinking," he whispered. "I have no company to run, no legacy to protect, and no mother to answer to. I’m just a man with a wife and a daughter."
"Is that enough for you?" she asked, resting her head against his chest.
Julian looked at his daughter, then back at the woman who had dared to walk into a boardroom with a baby and a heart full of steel. He kissed her forehead.

"It’s not just enough, Elena," he said, holding her tighter as the morning sun flooded the room. "It’s everything."
The past was a closed book, and for the first time in their lives, they were finally writing their own story together.
