Chapter 4 - The Eviction Reversal

The morning air at the Grand Pointe Luxury Apartments in downtown Phoenix was crisp and clear.

At 9:45 AM, a large black moving truck backed into the loading zone in front of the main entrance. Tyler stepped out of his sleek white Audi sports car—a car he had leased using our joint savings three months ago—wearing a designer tracksuit and aviator sunglasses.

Beside him stood Victoria, clutching a iced latte, looking thoroughly amused.

"Make sure you throw all her cheap clothes into trash bags," Tyler barked at the two moving men in overalls. "If she leaves anything behind, toss it in the dumpster. I want the unit cleared out by noon so I can turn in the keys."

"Are you sure your ex-wife isn't inside?" one of the movers asked nervously. "She just had a baby, right?"

"She isn't my wife anymore," Tyler sneered. "And she was supposed to be discharged yesterday. If she's inside, call security and have her dragged out for trespassing."

Tyler marched into the lobby, riding the elevator up to the ninth floor. He pulled out his key, shoved it into the lock of Unit 904, and turned it.

The lock didn't move.

Tyler frowned, turning the key harder. "What the hell?"

He tried again, twisting until the key almost bent in his hand. The brass lock remained firmly set.

"Did she change the lock?" Victoria asked, crossing her arms in annoyance. "Call the building manager, Ty. This is ridiculous."

Tyler pulled out his phone and dialed the building manager, Mr. Henderson. "Henderson! Why doesn't my key work on Unit 904? Did that crazy woman lock me out?"

"Mr. Vance," Henderson's voice came through the speaker, sounding strangely stiff and formal. "I suggest you step down to the main lobby immediately."

"I don't have time to come down to the lobby!" Tyler yelled. "I hired a moving crew! Break the door open!"

"I cannot do that, Mr. Vance," Henderson replied. "The owner of the building is currently on the property and has personally requested your presence in the executive leasing office."

Tyler scoffed, hanging up the phone. "The owner? Perfect. I'll tell the owner how incompetent the management is here."

Tyler and Victoria strutted down the hallway, taking the elevator back down to the ground floor. They marched into the plush glass-walled executive office, ready to raise hell.

"Henderson!" Tyler shouted, slamming his hand onto the front desk. "Where is the owner? I pay four thousand dollars a month for that unit, and my key doesn't work!"

The high-backed leather chair behind the grand mahogany desk slowly rotated around.

Sitting in the chair was not an elderly real estate mogul.

It was me.

I was wearing a tailored ivory jumpsuit, my hair styled in soft, elegant waves, a subtle diamond pendant resting against my collarbone. Standing on either side of my chair were Mr. Harrison and Ms. Jenkins, flanked by two imposing security officers in black suits.

Tyler froze. His mouth opened, but no sound came out. His eyes darted from my face to my clothes, then to the massive gold sign on the desk that read: VANCE CAPITAL HOLDINGS - OFFICE OF THE CHAIRWOMAN.

"Nora?" Tyler stammered, his face turning a mottled shade of red. "What... what kind of sick joke is this? Why are you sitting in the manager's chair? Where did you get those clothes?"

Victoria stepped forward, her eyes narrowing in confusion. "Ty, who is this woman?"

"This is my ex..." Tyler trailed off, staring at me in utter bewilderment. "Nora, get out of that chair before I call the police! You're breaking and entering!"

Ms. Jenkins stepped forward, pulling a crisp set of legal documents from her leather folder and placing them on the desk.

"Mr. Tyler Vance," Ms. Jenkins said, her voice echoing with professional coldness. "As of 8:00 AM yesterday, Apex Commercial Properties—including this building—was acquired in full by Vance Capital Holdings. Mrs. Nora Vance is the sole owner and Chairwoman of the board."

"That's impossible!" Tyler laughed hysterically, looking at Victoria. "She's broke! She doesn't have a job! Her family is nobody! She's probably sleeping with this old man!" He pointed an accusing finger at Mr. Harrison.

SLAM!

One of the security guards stepped forward, slamming his heavy hand onto the counter, his eyes flashing with lethal intent. Tyler jumped back, flinching violently.

"Watch your mouth, Mr. Vance," Mr. Harrison said smoothly, adjusting his cufflinks. "Mrs. Nora Vance is the granddaughter and sole heir of the late Edward Vance. Her personal net worth exceeds two hundred million dollars."

The room fell into an agonizing, suffocating silence.

Tyler's face drained of every ounce of color. His knees buckled slightly, his hands trembling as he stared at me as if he were seeing a ghost.

"Two... two hundred... million?" Tyler whispered, his voice cracking violently. "Edward Vance? The mining and shipping tycoon?"

Victoria dropped her iced latte. The plastic cup burst on the marble floor, splashing sweet coffee over her designer shoes. "Two hundred million?!" she shrieked, looking at Tyler in pure horror. "You told me she was a penniless orphan from the gutter!"

I stood up slowly from the leather chair, resting my hands on the mahogany desk, looking down at the man who had abandoned me during labor for a five-thousand-dollar payout.

"As the owner of this property, Tyler," I said softly, my voice cold and unyielding, "I have terminated your lease effective immediately due to non-payment of the security deposit—which was paid from my personal account."

"Nora... wait..." Tyler gasped, taking a frantic step toward the desk, his eyes filled with a terrifying mix of shock, greed, and panic. "Nora, honey... there's been a huge mistake!"

"Don't call me honey," I warned.

"Nora, listen to me!" Tyler pleaded, his voice rising in sheer desperation. "I was stressed! I was overwhelmed by the pressure of work and becoming a father! I didn't mean what I said at the hospital! I love you! You know I love you!"

Victoria gasped, slapping Tyler hard across the face. "You disgusting liar! You told me you hated her!"

Tyler ignored Victoria completely, shoving her aside as he pressed his hands against my desk, tears actually brimming in his eyes. "Nora, please! We're a family! Where is our son? Where is Leo? I want to see my boy!"

I looked down at him with profound disgust.

"You lost the right to call him your son the moment you left me screaming in pain on the apartment floor," I said coldly. "Ms. Jenkins?"

Ms. Jenkins handed Tyler a second document. "This is a temporary emergency restraining order, Mr. Vance. You are legally barred from coming within five hundred feet of Mrs. Vance or child Leo Vance. Furthermore, we are filing a formal lawsuit against you for fraud, conversion of marital assets, and intentional infliction of emotional distress."

"Nora, please!" Tyler sobbed, reaching for my hand across the desk.

May you like

The two security guards instantly grabbed Tyler by his arms, twisting them behind his back and forcing him down to his knees on the marble floor.

"Get your trash out of my building, Tyler," I said, leaning down until I was inches from his pale, trembling face. "Because this is only the beginning."
