Chapter 10 - A Golden Dawn

One Year Later.

The evening sun was dipping below the red peaks of Paradise Valley, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of gold, violet, and deep crimson.

A gentle breeze rustled through the palm trees surrounding the terrace of my estate. The soft sound of classical piano music drifted from the open French doors of the living room.

I sat on a plush outdoor lounge chair, sipping a cool glass of iced tea, watching Leo—now a energetic, happy nineteen-month-old toddler—running across the green grass with a toy airplane, his cheerful laughter ringing through the air.

Chloe was sitting on the grass nearby, chasing after him, both of them covered in bright afternoon sunlight.

Mr. Vance Harrison walked out onto the terrace, holding a thin leather file folder. He looked relaxed, his face wearing a warm, contented smile.

"Good evening, Mrs. Vance," Mr. Harrison said gently, pulling up a chair beside me.

"Good evening, Vance," I smiled. "How were the quarterly reports?"

"Vance International has posted its highest profits in history," Mr. Harrison reported, closing the file without even opening it. "The foundation has expanded to three new states, and over two thousand mothers have been provided with housing and legal defense this year alone."

"That is wonderful news," I said, looking out over the gardens.

Mr. Harrison looked at me for a moment, his eyes filled with deep respect. "I received a letter from the state penitentiary today. Tyler Vance's legal representative submitted a petition for early parole, asking if you would write a letter of leniency."

I took a slow sip of my tea, watching Leo wave his tiny hands at a passing butterfly.

"And what did you tell them?" I asked softly.

"I didn't answer," Mr. Harrison replied smoothly. "Because his existence is no longer relevant to your life."

I smiled warmly. "You're right, Vance. He isn't."

The bitterness was gone. The hurt was gone. Even the desire for revenge had faded into nothingness, replaced by a deep, unwavering sense of peace and fulfillment.

Tyler had built his life on a foundation of greed, arrogance, and cruelty, and it had collapsed under its own weight. I had built my life on love, resilience, and truth, and it had blossomed into something more beautiful than I had ever dared to dream.

"Mommy! Look! Butterfly!" Leo yelled, turning around and sprinting across the lawn toward the terrace on his chubby little legs.

I stood up from my chair, dropping to my knees on the soft grass, opening my arms wide.

Leo tumbled into my lap, burying his sweet face against my shoulder, his tiny arms wrapping tightly around my neck.

"I see it, my sweet boy," I whispered, kissing his warm, chubby cheek, holding him tight against my heart. "I see it."

I looked up at the golden sunset painted across the endless horizon.

My heart was full. My son was safe. My father's legacy was honored, and my life was finally, truly my own.
